Inclusion

Inclusion

While Sunmarke is an academically rigorous school, we welcome a diverse range of learners from EYFS to Secondary.

The Achievement Centre takes the lead in providing an inclusive education to students in close collaboration with parents, teachers and external specialists.

In order to facilitate successful participation and progress for all learners, we offer a range of additional provisions at no extra cost. These are subject to staffing and availability and are offered in response to the needs of the cohort. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Interventions for literacy
  • Interventions for mathematics
  • Speaking and listening
  • Social skills
  • Motor skills
  • Directed studies
  • Extra-curricular activities specific to students with SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities)

Sunmarke School offers a high quality education for students of determination through our multiple curriculum pathways, supported by appropriate and personalised provision, resources, and curricular options. Our school is also an accredited centre for the ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) programme of study.

We offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities for students who show exceptional aptitude for, or interest in, specific areas of academics or creative performance.

We have developed a reliable network of external providers, who parents can contract to provide specialist assessment and therapy services at Sunmarke. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensive developmental and diagnostic assessment
  • Psycho-educational assessment
  • Behavioural assessment and intervention
  • Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration assessment and intervention
  • Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention
  • Personalised support from a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant

Commitment to Inclusion

Sumarke has a highly successful SEND department which has been commended in our most recent DSIB inspection.

Sunmarke also has a rigorous Fortes Intensive English Language Learning Programme and a nationally renowned initiative called the Sports Heroes Academy, which is a coaching programme where Sunmarke students volunteer to work with Children of Determination after school to develop the latter’s cognitive abilities through sports.

Learn more below:

The Fortes English Language School is an interactive and effective English Language programme enabling children to build strong English language skills and boost their academic performance.

Students will actively learn new skills through Drama, Art, Cookery and class lessons with expert English language teachers. It’s a great way to make new friends, have fun and also earn a Certificate of English Proficiency upon completion. The Camps are held at our campus during the Spring, Summer and Winter breaks.

The Sports Heroes Academy, a one-of-a-kind sports programme, welcomes more than 40 young people into Sunmarke School each week, to train with one of Sunmarke’s 65 volunteer students.

Founded by Miss Murphy, a PE teacher at Sunmarke, the programme aims to provide our athletes with equal opportunities regardless of their ability in their chosen sport. An aspiration for these young athletes is to eventually have the opportunity to reach Special Olympic standards one day.

Sunmarke’s student volunteers work closely with the Inclusion Department at the School to learn the necessary skills to coach and assist their “buddies” during training sessions. This peer-coaching programme draws upon our School’s core values and Positive Education ethos whereby confidence, physical skills and social communication skills for our athletes are built upon. It also allows for meaningful friendships to develop with a deep admiration for the athletes’ strength, perseverance and courage.

In line with H.H. Sheikh Hamdan’s initiative, which aims to make Dubai a friendly city for people of determination by 2020, this powerful programme continues to touch hearts and receive growing support from people across Dubai including external providers such as C.F Tennis Academy, Streetwise UAE and Apollo Perelini.
