1. Why Sunmarke, Why IB?

Sunmarke is an inclusive school and we are all very proud of this. Being an inclusive school means that our student population is made up of girls and boys and young men and women, who have different levels of ability, learnings styles, interests, levels of self-esteem and aspirations. We have a multi-pathway model, which empowers our students with bespoke post-16 course selections, to find the most appropriate route to study the subject of their choice at the university or college of their choice. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career–Related Programme (IBCP) are two of these options. More than 4,000 schools globally have chosen to teach International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes, with their unique academic rigour and their emphasis on students’ personal development, intercultural understanding and development of multilingual students.

2. What are the benefits of the IB programmes?

Both the IBDP and IBCP encourage students to think independently and drive their own learning. Students as a result of both programmes become more culturally aware through the development of a second language and develop the skills to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.

3. What is the main difference between the IBDP and IBCP?

The career-related (CP) programme incorporates the academic rigour of some of the diploma programme courses alongside a career-related qualification. At Sunmarke students at present choose from the variety of BTEC Level 3 courses on offer including Business, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and ITfor the career-related qualification.

4. Are the IB programmes recognized and valued at Universities?

Research indicates that IB graduates complete college faster than their peers, feel more prepared for college-level coursework involving research, and are better able to cope with demanding workloads and time-management challenges. Universities across the globe recognize and accept the IBDP and IBCP. The Sunmarke team of highly experienced staff, including career counsellors, guide students, in conjunction with their families, into the most appropriate universities and colleges to fulfill their future dreams and goals. This support includes workshops and personalised meetings for both students and parents throughout the year.

5. Are the teachers trained and experienced to teach the IB progammes?

To ensure that the school is fully prepared to deliver the IB programmes to a high quality from the beginning all teachers teaching IB have had specific IB training in their subject areas. Many of our staff recruited in the last 2 years have already received IB training and have come from successful IB schools from across the world.

Sunmarke is currently a candidate school and subject to accreditation will be delivering both the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career–related Programme (IBCP) from September 2019.*

*Only schools authorised by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its academic programmes. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorisation will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
