“7 Reasons why we’re studying the IB Programme at Sunmarke School”

As Sunmarke prepares for its exciting new curriculum offerings, we caught up with our students to find out why they are taking the International Baccalaureate pathway.

1. Dorothy in Year 11, is choosing the following IB DP subjects at Sunmarke School:

Higher Level: English, Film, Business
Standard Level: Maths, ESS, French

What I am most looking forward to:
“I like that I will be able to keep my options open without committing to any specific field of work. The IB programme will also keep my choices open for university. I really like the fact that I’ll gain a wide range of knowledge in several subjects without limiting study time.“

2. Camilla is choosing the following IB DP subjects:

Higher Level: Biology, Chemistry, French
Standard Level: English, Maths Analysis, Ecomonics

What I am most looking forward to:
“I’m looking forward to taking the Theory of Knowledge to reflect on my own learning perspectives and interpretations of the nature of knowledge. I also like the variety that IB DP offers so I get to choose a range of subjects from science to languages – I’m really excited about perfecting my French!“

3. Marne is choosing the following IB CP subjects:

BTEC Media alongside
Higher Level: English
Standard Level: Psychology

What I am most looking forward to:
“I plan to do Media Production at university so taking BTEC Media as part of the IB CP programme is great. It’s a really balanced course so I feel it will challenge me as well as enable me to continue studying the subjects that I love.“

4. Luiza is choosing the following IB DP subjects:

Higher Level: Biology, Chemistry, French
Standard Level: Psychology, Maths Analysis, English

What I am most looking forward to:
“I am looking forward to all of my subject options and working on my research skills that will prepare me for life at university.“

5. Aksi is choosing the following IB CP subjects:

BTEC Media alongside
Higher Level: Spanish
Standard Level: English, IT in Global Society

What I am most looking forward to:
“The courses I have chosen will help me for university. I also can’t wait to do the CAS part of the course, especially the community service aspect. It will be interesting to think creatively and in a way that helps me empathise and learn with and from others.“

6. Leonardo is choosing the following IB DP subjects:

Higher Level: Business, Spanish, English
Standard Level: Physics, Maths, Psychology

What I am most looking forward to:
“I like the core subjects – Theory of Knowledge is basic epistemology (philosophy) and I believe that learning about philosophy is very important as it is the base of all science and knowledge. The IB programme is also more personal and interactive and there is more freedom within each subject.“

7. Viola is choosing the following IB DP subjects:

Higher Level: Spanish, English, Psychology
Standard Level: Maths, Biology, Economics

What I am most looking forward to:
“The IB curriculum really caught my attention on the taster day. I chose it over A-levels as it will keep my options open for when I go to university as I haven’t decided what profession to pursue in the future yet. With the variety of subjects, I am taking, it will provide me with a well-rounded education.“

We are excited about the fantastic opportunities that await our students in the Sunmarke Sixth Form, whether they choose our A-Level, BTEC, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.

We believe that each of these pathways provides students with the challenge and skills needed to become a lifelong learner and be prepared no matter with university or industry pathway they choose. The IB Programme, in particular, offers students a stimulating combination of academic rigour with a strong focus on the whole child that “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect”.

Choosing the IB pathway will ensure that our students will become a caring, open-minded young people with the ability to take risks and think critically as well as work collaboratively with others.
