Creative & Performing Arts
We use every opportunity possible to develop and nurture creativity at Sunmarke.
Our specialist lessons (such as music, art, computing, languages, PE) are carefully planned to reflect each year group’s theme, embrace our Positive Education ethos and make meaningful links with social studies and moral education objectives.
Students develop a deeper understanding of works of art and designs from different periods, of famous composers, engineers, linguists and sporting heroes whilst improving their skillset in areas such as form and texture, pitch and tone, coding and robotics, pronunciation and composition and timing and precision. These knowledge and skills are further built upon in electives, including our Performing Arts elective that prepares students for our annual musical performance. Stimulating displays in the classrooms and corridors ensure widespread appreciation of their achievements and effort throughout the year.
Aesthetic choices confront us at all times and we believe it’s vitally important that artistic sensibilities are developed to the fullest extent, ensuring a lifelong interest and understanding of the arts.
Drama and having the opportunity to perform on the centre stage is a big pleasure here. Each year, Primary take to the limelight for a number of shows and performances:
- End of Term Assemblies– students present a combined drama, music and dance assembly to their parents as part of the end of term celebrations.
- Year 5 & 6 Productions -these take place in March. Recent productions have included Beauty & The Beast and Peter Pan.

Our specialist music teachers will find what it takes to ignite every child’s passion for music. Whether your child is a Grade 7 pianist or just beginning to show an interest in different musical genres, there is something for everyone in the Sunmarke music department.
Students are encouraged to perform as much as possible: in assemblies, concerts, school productions – our school is their stage!
