IB Careers-Related Programme (IBCP)

Supporting students to compete at the global level

What is the International Baccalaureate Careers-Related Programme?

The International Baccalaureate Careers-Related Programme (IBCP) allows students to specialise into an industry of their choosing whilst keeping their options ajar. This is a 2 year post 16 course that prepares students to go into the industry or university depending on their preference, still embedding those learning profile attributes and skills preparing them for lifelong learning. Students must choose a career-related study. Sunmarke excels & specialises in 2 career paths; Enterprise & Entrepreneurship and Creative Media Production.

What does this Pathway look like?

Here students will choose a BTEC alongside up to 3 IBDP Courses to make up their programme of study. These IBDP subjects can be studied at either Standard or Higher Level. IBCP students will follow their own core requirements that is designed to bridge the IBDP academic courses and the career-related study as well as provide students with a combination of academic and practical skills. These core elements are Personal and Professional Skills (PPS), Service Learning (SL), the Reflective Project (RP) and Language Development (LD) and are designed to allow for personal development and to link in with the students chosen Careers-Related Study.

How does this Pathway lead to University?

Similar to BTECs, the Careers-Related Programme gives hands on experience in combination with academic theory and will lead on to university pathways. However, not all universities will be open to you and, in countries such as the United States and Canada, there will be certain universities that don’t accept this programme. It is important for you to research the countries you are interested in to get an idea of what your options will be.

What skills will I develop?

Through your reflective project you will develop your research and academic writing skills; this is excellent preparation for assignments you would undertake on an undergraduate degree course. Being an International Baccalaureate programme of study, there is also a focus on awareness of your own culture as well as those around you. You will also be encouraged to become internationally minded as you consider arguments with global context.
